The Score (2001)

Directed by Frank Oz

Starred Robert De Niro, Edward Norton, Marlon Brando, Angela Bassett,

2001, United States & Germany, English

Another pure robbery treat. 3 giants like De Niro, Norton and Brando in the same movie. But it was Angela Bassett won Image Awards and was nominated for BET Awards with her performance with this movie.
We have very well acting as we can expect from this cast, but I have to say despite to a lot of twists, the movie is somehow cliché.

Still enjoyable as long at it lasts. I can define as a well-done movie, which follows closely its genre pattern.

Entrapment (1999)

Directed by Jon Amiel
Starred Sean Connery, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Ving Rhames, Will Patton, Maury Chaykin,

1999, United States & United Kingdom & Germany, English

Long preparations for robbery. Romantic tension between main characters. Finally, the robbery where all these long preparations gain meaning. Surprises? Of course, yes, many. In my personal opinion not unusual, not shocking ones, but we have.

The movie has all the elements what a robbery movie should have and it isn't a low quality movie at all but something is still missing. What is it? Don't know.

When we look at the movie's award career, it also actually reflects this contrast. The movie is awarded for Best Actor and Actress Awards by Audience in European Film Awards, which is one of the most serious awards in my opinion. The movie was also nominated for Worst Actor and Worst Screen Couple categories in Razzie Awards, where the worst ones of the year are selected.

In brief, if you see the movie by knowing that the movie doesn't take itself too serious and by knowing that you shouldn't have high expectations, then you can pretty much enjoy it as a robbery movie. Plus a breathtaking Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Flypaper (2011)

Directed by Rob Minkoff

Starred Patrick Dempsey, Ashley Judd, Tim Blake Nelson, Mekhi Phifer, Matt Ryan, Jeffrey Tambor, John Ventimiglia, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Curtis Armstrong, Rob Huebel, Adrian Martinez, Natalia Safran, Octavia Spencer, Eddie Mathews ...

2011, United States &Germany, English.

Another one-location heist movie. This time it is comedy heist. What happens if two different robbery teams appears in the same moment to rob the same bank? And what happens if one of them are all-pro team, while the other is a couple of buffoons?

Many different characters. More we watch, more we like the characters. Acting tends to get better from start to end. Especially Tim Blake Nelson does a great job. More the movie progress, more it becomes mysterious. Many smart jokes come back to back. Although it doesn't reach to the top, it doesn't fall under a certain quality. But one thing continuously rises: the mystery.

A different style of caper. Close to be a dark comedy. The clever scenario runs smoothly. I really enjoyed it. Not a bad choice for a caper at all. It didn't me blow away though.

My Mom's New Boyfriend (2008)

(Also Known As) Homeland Security
Directed by George Gallo

Starred Antonio Banderas, Meg Ryan, Colin Hanks, Selma Blair, Trevor Morgan, Keith David...

2008, United States & Germany, English.

The title already gives away the story of the movie, right? :) And it also gives away that it is a comedy movie. Let me give away a little bit more. What if you worked for FBI and bureau asked you to spy on your mom, because they suspect her new boy-friend to be a member of high profile thieves gang?

Also known as 'Homeland Security' in US, the movie brings Antonio Banderas and Meg Ryan together as well as Selma Blair and Colin Hanks. An interesting note about the cast is Meg Ryan is playing Colin Hanks`s mom. who is Tom Hank`s son, wo co-starred with Meg Ryan in 3 movies :)

It is a light caper, and although there are important names in the acting cast, the chemistry is missing between characters in my opinion. That affects fun level of the movie too , of course.

Not much to say.  Comedy, caper, Meg Ryan, Banderasm feel like watching? Go ahead. You might enjoy it.

Stander (2003)

Directed by Bronwen Hughes

Starred Thomas Jane, David O'Hara, Dexter Fletcher, Deborah Kara Unger ...

2003, South Africa & Canada & Germany & United Kingdom, English with some Afrikaan & Zulu dialogues

If we would make a world heist movies tour, this movie has to be our destination for Republic of South Africa.

This one has a pretty political standing. It doesn't start so, but it evolves into so :) And it absolutely deserves attention.

A slow pace, political and different heist movie. The most shocking part is that it is based on a true story.

You can see this movie in some 'Top Heist Movies' listings. Particularly for the listings enjoy 'alternative' robbery movies.
