Starred Ben Affleck, Rebeca Hall, Jeremy Runner, Blake Lively, Jon Hamm, Pete Poslethwaite, Chris Cooper...
2010, United States, English
I didn't know that it was a heist movie when we rented this movie. I rented it, because Jeremy Runner then was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for the upcoming Oscar event. While we were little bit disappointed with his performance (he wasn't bad, but not that great either), we were satisfied with the quality level of the movie which happened to be a heist movie. Since we have seen it with no expectations, it was a nice surprise for us. Other than this, movie doesn't offer almost nothing new nor different to contribute to the genre, although it is pretty enjoyable while it lasts. It doesn't risk anything such as trying to break the genre's codes, so in return doesn't gain a special place in the genre. Based on a novel, the director, screenwriter and principle actor of the movie is Oscar winner screenwriter Ben Affleck.
As well as an Oscar nomination, Runner earned another nomination in another award, Golden Globes. British actor, Pete Poslethwaite received a nomination for his supporting role in prestigious BAFTA Awards. After this movie, Poslethwaite made a last one movie called 'Killing Bono' where his role had to be rewritten when the director saw how ill he was. So, 'The Town' is one of the very last privileges bestowed on us to see great actor Pete Poslethwaite on screen. He will be always in my most unforgettable movie memories, especially with his stunning performance from 'In the Name of the Father'.
If you look for;
a team work robbery movie
a heist action blended with some romance
a movie focused both on heist and characters
a movie about criminal gang lives
then this is your movie.
then this is your movie.
