It isn't easy to capture a heist cinema fan's attention from start to end for an old movie. They didn't have the same technology, special effects that modern cinema offers. But, of course, they had the spirit of cinema. Although some old heist movies had some memorable moments, they generally failed to capture my attention from start to end. This is one of the exceptions.
The title 'Seven Thieves' sounds terrifically tempting for a heist movie. I had never heard of this movie until I saw it on the dusty shelves :) of the library. I grabbed it immediately. And noticed how rich the cast was: Two Oscar Honorary Award winners Edward G. Robinson and Eli Wallach, as well as big names such as Rod Steiger and sexy Joan Collins. So I didn't put it back to the shelf then :)
This 1960 production, which I have seen without expectations and without having heard of it before turned out to be a nice discovery for me. I really liked it. Not only it doesn't fail in any phase of the movie, but also it is catchy and nicely done. You get almost everything you look for in a heist movie and with a delicious flavor of nostalgia.
The movie nominated for Oscar for Costume Designer - Black & White category, lost to The Facts of Life.
