Starred Tom Hanks, Irma P. Hall, Marlon Wayans, J.K. Simmons, Tzi Ma, Ryan
Hurst...
2004, United States, English with some Vietnamese dialogues.
A heist gang of 5, each dumber than another, is trying to pull a casino
heist by masking themselves as musicians, when the gang leader rented a room
from an old widow played by Irma P. Hall. But what happens, if the old lady
discovers what they are up to?
American remake of British 1955 production, The Ladykillers is directed by
Oscar winner directors, Coen Brothers, who are specialized on especially dark comedy and
crime movies. The lead role belongs to Tom Hans, while the rest of the cast is completed
with the actors such as Marlon Wayans, oscar winner J.K. Simmons, Tzi Ma, Ryan Hurst and Irma
P. Hall. In brief, a promising team.
The result wasn't satisfying to me as a caper movie but wasn't bad for a
comedy movie in general.
Irma P. Hall got a nomination in Sci-Fi Oscars, Saturn Awards, for Best
Supporting Actress category, but lost to Daryl Hannah of Kill Bill: Volume 2.
She won an important award for her performance though; Jury Prize in Cannes Film
Festival. The movie was nominated for prestigious Palme D'Or in the same
festival but lost to Fahrenheit 9/11.
No doubt that the movie is an interesting mixture by all means.
